I like a bit of self depreciating humour - and Jon Ronson's description of himself as ""Essentially a humorous journalist...out of my depth." pretty much sums up the what and the how of what he does. I think this approach to journalism worked best in his book "Them: Adventures With Extremists" - where his approach - which appears amateurish (though I guess this may be a little contrived) allows the extremists to damn them selves with their own idiocy. As an approach to journalism it perhaps proved more effective than that of the most driven crusade of the most committed investigative journalist.
Beyond this Ronson's writing has a knack for homing in the absurd, the odd and the awkward aspects of modern life in a way that certainly makes me laugh. Laugh enough in fact to recommend his books to any reading this. So I will
